Those who mourn over Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his progeny will have an enviable status in the hereafter.
An enlightening report on the subject gives a hint about their status:
Anas bin Malik reports from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.):
The poor ones from my nation will rise while they are adorned with green clothes and threads woven with pearls and rubies with staffs of light in their hands speaking from pulpits.
When the prophets pass by them, they will exclaim – these are from the angels and when the angels pass by them, they will say – these are from the prophets.
They will say: We are neither angels nor prophets, rather we are mortals from the poor ones of Muhammad’s (s.a.w.a.) nation.
They will ask: How did you manage to reach this status?
They will reply: Our actions were not great. We neither fasted in the days nor rose for prayers in the nights. However, we were dutiful in the five obligatory prayers and when we heard mention of Muhammad (s.a.w.a.), tears flowed freely down our cheeks.

Rather than criticize mourning over Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and his infallible progeny (a.s.), sceptics should reflect on the numerous reports validating mourning the underscoring the esteemed status of the mourners.
